Section 6
Operation of Armed Police
:
(1) The Government of Nepal shall operate the Armed Police for the following purposes:-
(a) To control any armed conflict that has or may occur in any part of Nepal,
(b) to control any armed insurrection or separatist activity in any part of Nepal,
(c) to control any terrorist activity occurring or likely to occur in any part of Nepal,
(d) To control riots that have occurred or may occur in any part of Nepal,
(e) To assist in the rescue of victims of natural calamities and epidemics occurring or likely to occur in any part of Nepal,
(f) To rescue the abducted person in case of abduction of a citizen of Nepal or any other person or to control any other kind of heinous and serious crime or disturbance of a serious nature if there is or is suspected to be,
(g) To protect the border of Nepal,
(h) To support under the Nepali Army in case of external attack,
(i) To protect buildings, structures and other places of public importance designated by the Government of Nepal,
(j) To protect the persons and designated organizations etc. which are deemed to be protected by the Government of Nepal,
(k) To perform the functions mentioned in this Act and the rules made under this Act or prescribed in accordance with other prevailing laws,
(l) To perform other tasks as prescribed by the Government of Nepal from time to time.
(2) According to sub-section (1), the Government of Nepal shall inform the Central Security Committee of the National Security Council regarding the operation of the armed police in any part of Nepal at least once a week, the number of armed police operating in that area and the operations being carried out by the armed police.
(3) According to sub-section (1), the Nepal Government may delegate the authority of the Government of Nepal to a specific category of official under the Nepal Government as required.
(4) The authorized officer according to sub-section (3) shall inform the Government of Nepal regarding the operation of armed police in any part of Nepal at least once a week, the number of armed police operating in that area and the operations being carried out by the armed police.
(5) The Government of Nepal shall provide the information received under sub-section (4) to the Central Security Committee of the National Security Council.
